StarNews Mobile has experienced exponential growth and success in Nigeria. This success is not only measured by our increase in subscribers and revenue but also by our meaningful contribution to Nigeria’s creator economy, helping local creators earn real incomes through our platform.
Nigeria is one of the largest markets on the African continent, and in the world, with a population of 224 million people, almost 3% of the world population. As the second best-performing entertainment and media consumer market and the second most valuable film industry in the world, Nigeria is an ideal market for StarNews Mobile.
StarNews Mobile’s growth and success is due to our team’s hard work and our partnership with MTN, Nigeria’s largest telecommunications operator, with over 75M subscribers, a 35% market share, and the largest market in sub-Saharan Africa.
Since launching StarNews Mobile in Nigeria, we have launched 11 channels and are working with six local creators, including Kaffy, Lordsky, KennyBlaq, and Oluwadolarz.
Our strategy of investing in exclusive content production and targeting our marketing to the right audience has proven incredibly successful, resulting in a higher average revenue per user (ARPU) and a lower churn rate. We are now getting more value per customer, and our revenue is growing 3.5 times faster than our customer base.
In 2021, our Nigerian subscribers grew from 0 to 6,000. Then in 2022, our subscribers grew to 35,000, a 6x subscriber growth. Additionally, StarNews Mobile’s revenue from our Nigerian channels increased from $10,000 in 2021 to $200,000 in 2022, a 20x growth.
This growth was created with only six creators. By increasing the number of creators on our platform in Nigeria, we can exponentially increase our revenue and truly service a large part of Nigeria’s market, the second-largest media and entertainment market in the world.
